Winnipeg television station Joytv 11 launches its 2009-2010 season in September with new additions to its lineup of prime time current affairs and drama series simulcasts, syndicated comedies and original local programming.
Mark Prasuhn, Chief Operating Officer for Joytv’s parent company S-VOX, said a simulcast of the long-running ABC news magazine series 20/20 will join the schedule on Fridays at 9 p.m. Joytv already carries the highly-rated current affairs series 60 Minutes and 48 Hours Mystery in simulcast.
New Canadian productions The Standard, hosted by 60 Minutes veteran Peter Klein, and P3: People, Places, Perspectives, will also form part of the station’s current affairs roster.
Said Mr. Prasuhn: “We are pleased to have firmly established Joytv as the current affairs news magazine leader in Winnipeg, and to have built upon our commitment to high-quality Canadian current affairs programming.”
Simulcasts of the popular prime time dramas Supernatural and Smallville will be back this season, along with syndicated drama offerings such as The Practice, Third Watch and Angel. Joytv will also add the Golden Globe Award-nominated Everybody Hates Chris to a weekday comedy lineup that currently includes such hits as Frasier and The King of Queens.
Other additions include the entertainment news magazine The Insider and the long-running daytime drama One Life to Live (airing in simulcast).

Supernatural – Thursdays at 8 p.m. New season begins Sept. 10

Tom Welling stars as Clark Kent, now a young reporter for the Daily Planet in the big city of Metropolis, where he continues to grapple with the mysteries of his past and the meaning of his strange powers.
48 Hours Mystery – Saturdays at 9 p.m. New season begins Sept. 26
The Emmy Award-winning 48 Hours Mystery is television's most popular true-crime series, investigating shocking cases and compelling real-life dramas with journalistic integrity and cutting-edge style.
60 Minutes – Sundays at 6 p.m. New season begins Sept. 27
60 Minutes, the most successful broadcast in television history, begins its 42nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, 60 Minutes has won more Emmy Awards than any other prime time broadcast. The correspondents and contributors include Anderson Cooper, Katie Couric, Steve Kroft, Scott Pelley, Charlie Rose, Morley Safer, Bob Simon and Lesley Stahl.
20/20 – Fridays at 9 p.m. Season begins Sept. 11
John Stossel and Elizabeth Vargas host one of television’s most recognized and revered newsmagazine series. 20/20’s team of veteran correspondents includes Jim Avila, Martin Bashir, Chris Connelly, Bill Ritter and Deborah Roberts.
P3: People, Places, Perspectives – Monday to Thursday at 10 p.m., starting Sept. 14
Also airs Monday to Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Enthusiastic, eager and informed: that sums up Randall Mark, an award-winning broadcaster and author, and host of Joytv’s brand new flagship program P3. Taped in Vancouver, this entertaining and insightful half-hour will give viewers the chance to meet fascinating personalities from every walk of life as it explores today’s most compelling issues, from spirituality to sexuality.

Produced in Vancouver, The Standard is a weekly hour-long current affairs interview program offering unique insight into our complex world. Everybody Hates Chris – Monday to Friday at 7:30 p.m. Premiere date TBA
Comedian Chris Rock narrates this hilarious and touching series inspired by his experiences as a teenager growing up in Brooklyn during the early 1980s. Uprooted to a new neighbourhood and bused into a predominantly white middle school by his strict, hard-working parents, Chris (Tyler James Williams) struggles to find his place while keeping his siblings in line at home and surmounting the challenges of junior high.
One Life to Live – Monday to Friday at 1 p.m. Premiere date TBA
In the small town of Llanview, Pennsylvania, the Buchanan, Lord and Cramer families struggle to maintain the bonds that have always united them. Created by legendary producer Agnes Nixon, this long-running daytime drama has been lauded for its diverse canvas, innovative storylines and groundbreaking exploration of social issues. Multiple Emmy Award winner Erika Slezak portrays town matriarch Viki Lord Davidson.
The Insider – Monday to Saturday at 7 p.m. and Midnight, starting Sept. 14

A daily news magazine from the producers of Entertainment Tonight, the half-hour program scours celebrity hot spots for star sightings, scandals and gossip.
